Norwich pub fined after OAP falls down stairs
A pensioner suffered multiple injuries when she fell down a set of stairs at a city pub, leading to a £9,000 fine for the business because of health and safety breaches. A pub chain that failed to report an accident has been fined £25,000 by Reading magistrate's court. A customer fell through an unsupervised trap door into the cellar of the Three Guineas on Reading railway station at closing time. The Pub owners also had to pay £3,654 costs to the council.
Former landlord of The Star pub fined £16,000
He was prosecuted by the Fire Brigade after officers discovered strict fire safety rules at The Star pub were not being observed after it failed an inspection in 2008. Officers discovered a number of fire safety failings including NO fire extinguishers, NO emergency signage, and NO fire risk assessment.
When officers returned subsequently they found their enforcement notice had not been acted upon.
